Mary Elizabeth (McDonough) Gagnon, 96, of Worcester died Wednesday April 25, 2012 in Dodge Park Rest Home after a brief illness.

Her husband, Norman A. Gagnon, died in 1970. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Gagnon Thayer of Shrewsbury, and her 4 grandchildren, Kristin A. Meersman and Geoffrey M. Thayer both of Shrewsbury, Robyn E. Thayer of Holden and Kelly M. Thayer of Worcester. She also leaves one great-grandchild, Christian M. Pond of Holden and a sister, Kathleen P. Loosemore of Worcester.

Born in Worcester, Mrs. Gagnon is the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Fitzpatrick) McDonough. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School and worked as an administrative secretary for the Worcester Public Schools for more than thirty years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church where she taught CCD.

Vacationing on Cape Cod with her family, engaging in local politics, and playing the piano and organ were among her interests.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 1 from 5-7 PM in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street. Her funeral will be held Wednesday, May 2 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
