Henry D. Valentine, Jr. (“Sonny”), 86, of Worcester passed away Monday, August 31st with his wife by his side. Henry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marianne (Krieg) Valentine; five children, Arthur Valentine and his wife Sabrina of San Jose, CA, Dr. Henry R. Valentine and his wife Linda of Lunenburg, Peter Valentine and his wife Rosy of Fontana, CA, Dr. Elizabeth Valentine-Thon of Bremen, Germany and Michael Valentine of Worcester; two stepchildren, Roberta Jones and her husband David of Worcester, Robert “Bobby” Champagne and his wife Deanna of Pittsfield, PA; a brother, Robert Valentine and his wife Stella of Worcester; two sisters, Genevieve Graboski of West Boylston and Florence Kowaleski of Worcester; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
Henry was born in Millbury, a son of Henry D. Valentine, Sr. and Rose (Maile) Valentine. He graduated from Commerce High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston. Henry than served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the famed 101st Infantry Division surrounded by the German Army at Bastogne and liberated by the forces of General Patton. He earned the Bronze Star medal for actions taken under fire during that siege. Henry worked more than 35 years for Riley Stoker Company, retiring superintendant. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, chess-playing, piano and accordion. Funeral services and burial in St. John Cemetery are private. There are no calling hours.
